If you're like me and are the queen of over packing. This little guide I created will help you tremendously. Wether I am going on a two day excursion or a week long trip my suitcase is packed to the rim, with two carryon bags on the side. Over packing can not only be overwhelming trying to keep up with everything, but expensive as well. Below are a few tips and tricks Ive learned to minimize baggage and maximize space.
Now I know this sounds crazy, but shoes alone take up a large amount of space in your suitcase. Instead of packing a different pair of shoes for every outfit, try picking one pair of shoes for the day that matches your outfits and then an evening pair for more formal or dressy occasions. Nude heels are classic and can be paired with almost anything depending on the style.
Put Items Inside Your Shoes!
As I said before shoes take up a lot of space! If bringing two pairs of shoes isn't an ideal goal for you then try putting items in them. Stuffing your shoes with items like lotion, jewelry, ties, belts etc is a smart way to utilize the space your shoes are taking up.
Roll it, Don't fold it!
Rolling your clothes instead of folding them minimizes creasing and maximizes space in your suitcase. Folding your clothes compresses everything allowing you to fit more in tiny spaces. What I like to do is put together an outfit and roll that entire ensemble together. So ill have my shirt, underwear, socks pants etc all in one roll. It makes it easy for me to just grab and go instead of having to rummage through my suitcase making an even bigger mess. Everything stay organized throughout my trip and my clothes don't get wrinkled.
Invest In Travel Size!
Yes, that sounds very obvious you would be surprised how much space your full bottle of lotion, hairspray, body wash and blow dryer can take up. Stores like CVS, Walmart, Kroger, Walgreens even Sephora sell travel sized version of their products. You can even buy travel sized containers to put you're own products. They cost a dollar for a whole set at Dollar General. Thankfully, as a gift my mother purchased me a travel sized flat iron and blowdryer which has helped me greatly. Do yourself a favor and get some travel sized products.
Don't Wait Until The Last Minute!
I started to notice a trend when I would wait until the night before to pack. I always ended packing more than I needed. just throwing anything and everything into my bags. Packing ahead of time always to you more time to organize and plan your outfits accordingly. Packing in rush in most cases, will mean wrinkled clothes bc your just shoving items in there, unnecessary items being added to the mix or necessary items being left at home because you over looked them while using. Im not saying pack two weeks in advance. But as your trip approaches you should have a good mental note of items you intend to bring. Packing in advance gives you time to look up baggage rules your airline may have updated since your last flight. You don't want to be last minute with anything you do in life, especially not packing.
